Chief Wren Cecily Benjamin Memorial

Living History

I have been researching the details of the female casualties of the sinking of the SS Aguila, August 1941 – 21 Wrens and 1 Naval Nursing Sister. One of the casualties was Chief Wren Cecily Monica Benjamin.

A comment on the Overton-on-Dee website quotes “Mr Edward Benjamin commissioned a memorial to his wife Cecily Benjamin. The twelve foot high angel hovering over the sea. Part of the inscription mentioned the girls ‘Joyous youth’ and loyal devotion to duty. It ends with the words ‘And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them walking on the sea”

Despite considerable research I have been unable to find any further reference or illustration of this memorial which I have to assume is somewhere in Overton-on-Dee, Wrexham. Can anybody assist please?
