Help with WW2 soldier details – and Royal Army Service Corps

Living History

Hi –

I am trying to track down service information on Edward Elsdon, service number: 353551. Nothing on Ancestry or Find My Past – just a brief mention in London Gazette when promoted to Lieut in July 1945.

He joined the Army in 1940 and stayed until 1947. I have a photo album filled with pictures taken by Edward during his service with the RASC, which mentions 43 T.C. Coy, 571 Coy RASC and 899 Coy.

The photos include an ambulance launch with 899 Coy in 1945, sergeant’s mess with 571 Coy in 1944, training with 43 T.C. Coy in Oxford in August 1941 and D Section of 571 Coy (Motor Boats) 1944.

Other photos include 571 Coy motor boats in Rothesay Bay, an experimental rocket craft in 1943, dumping boxes of shells at sea in Egypt, loading posion gas in Gulf of Suez, dumping gas in Red Sea.

Please, can anyone point me in the right direction to find out more about Edward? (Bizarrely, his father’s records from the First World War are all on line, but it is like Edward junior never existed.)
