KILO 45

Living History

Hi Everyone

On the first week of October 1944, 23rd Armoured Brigade held a Battle Camp.

Hosted by 11th KRRC, this was designed to help the dismounted tank regiments (40,46 and 50 RTR) to hone their infantry skills and fieldcraft ahead of the British Landings at Greece on 15th October 1944.

The day after this camp ended, Lt-Col Hunt, CO of 11th KRRC was promoted to acting Brigadier and given command of 11th Indian Infantry Brigade whilst his 2 I/C, Captain Henshaw was promoted to acting Lt-Col and command of the regiment.

The Battle Camp was held at KILO 45, somewhere near Amirya in Egypt.

Has anyone out there got a more accurate location for KILO 45. The diary entry talks about troops bathing in the nearby sea.

Thanks again as ever

Gus
