Overlord Marshalling areas and movements to D+10

Living History

The 4th Durham Survey Regiment RA war diaries for April and May 1944 show movements to marshalling areas.

Father in law was in ‘serial 27’ .. his personal diary shows he boarded on 7 June and landed on 9 June.

What were the ‘serials’?

and where can I find details of who was in each detail?

The Regimental history confirms that elements of the regiment landed early on D-Day “T he first light scale party of the Regiment, with the assault force of 50 (N) Division which included No. 47 Royal Marine Commando, actually landed at 08.20 hours on D-Day. T his consisted of one officer, Captain Hamer, and 13 men from ‘Y’ Troop.”

This first party was followed by a number of others over the next 10 days.
